This thesis describes bank system in Croatia. Altough banks can be divided according to numerous criteria, these thesis divides the banking institutions according to dominant type of work, size of their assets and ownership. Dividing banks by their size of assets, classification shows structure of assets and organization structure. Although the number of large banks is minor to number of smaller banks, the conclusion is that they still hold biggest share of the banking market in Croatia. For making analysis of the efficacy of banks there were samples of one large and one small bank. This analysis includes indicators of the ratio in balance sheet, profit and loss account and indicators of the probitability. Dividing of these indicators can give the client an accurate insight into the operations of the bank. It is shown that the large bank is not necessary more successful than the small bank. The structure of the banking system is shown with the financial statements and the banking activities. Dividing banks according to ownership, conclusion is that most banks in Croatia are foreign-owned.
